Mario's Time Machine is an educational Nintendo Entertainment System game part of the Mario Discovery series. The game features the same premise as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and MS-DOS game of the same name, but significantly differs by featuring different time periods and historical objects. The game was co-developed by The Software Toolworks and Radical Entertainment and published by the former company in June 1994 in North America.

Plot[]
Bowser has invented a machine called a Timulator to travel to various points in history to steal ancient artifacts for his museum. Mario and Yoshi go to the museum to try and stop Bowser before he permanently changes history. When they arrive, Yoshi rushes inside and is immediately captured by Bowser. Mario goes on a journey to recover all of the stolen artifacts and return them to their correct locations in time as well as to rescue Yoshi.
Gameplay[]
Mario must explore Bowser's Museum and find the ancient artifacts. There are seven doors, each leading into a room featuring Mario Bros.-style gameplay in which Mario has to defeat three Red Koopa Troopas to obtain an artifact. He then can enter the Timulator from the Warp Pipe on top of it and select one of fourteen different points in history to travel to, only one of which is the correct time period to return the item to.
Once Mario has traveled back to a different, he can explore the area. Mario can gather clues from information boxes and the locals to figure out whether he he returned with the item to the correct time period. If not, Mario can return into the Timulator to either go to the correct time period or a different one. Each room has two artifacts, and once both are returned, the room is blocked off.
Once Mario has returned every artifact, must take a final test before facing Bowser. He must answer three questions about the locations he has been. If Mario answers a question wrong, he gets sent back to the point in time where he can find the correct answer. After all three questions are answered correctly, he can enter the eighth and final door into Bowser's room to fight him.
Mario's Time Machine neither has a lives feature nor a Game Over. If Mario takes damage from an enemy, the player only loses control of him temporarily.
