What is Ventusky? ›

The name itself, Ventusky, is a combination of two words. The first is the Latin word, Ventus, means wind, and the second is the English word, Sky. The Ventusky application is accessible to anyone around the world, aimed at improving awareness about meteorological events in our atmosphere.

As a person who uses it daily for personal use and strom tracking, it's okay at its accuracy. It can't predict the future to a tee, but it's certainly better than AccuWeather. In a nutshell, it's okay to give you somewhat of an idea of future weather conditions.

In other ways, VentuSky has fewer options than Windy, with only 10 overlays available, including the mainstays of temperature, windspeed and rainfall. There also isn't the ability to set email alerts, and you can't view webcam pictures or forecasted weather markers, as on Windy.

One difference is that Ventusky overlays the screen with a grid of numbers showing wind speed, a handy addition. It uses several weather models including GFS but does not have ECMWF, the noted European model that Windy has. Ventusky costs $3.99.

In the Ventusky application, you will find data from the American model, GFS, the German ICON, the Canadian GEM and several regional models (ICON EU, ICON DE, NBM, HRRR).

We always acquire the latest data. As a rule, the numerical models are updated every 6 hours, but the precise interval depends on the particular model. You can find information on the latest data update by clicking the “i” icon in the bottom left corner next to information on the model used.

What is extremely windy called? ›
